Proposal to change hepatitis blood donation rules in United States of America
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008This is a new move by FDA to relax some rules regarding blood donation who were tested positive for hepatitis B. They suggest that older test (1980’s and 1990’s) to determine Hepatitis B resulted false positive test in some patients which prevented eligible donors from donating blood.According to new proposal people who were tested positive in the past will be screened again to check their Hepatitis and HIV status, and if they are found negative on thorough examination will again be allowed to donate blood.
How ever if those found positive again on repeated testing, they will not be allowed to donate blood. Also those who suffered hepatitis in past will not be allowed to donate blood.
